Grants

Description

Newman Foundation Inc. Grants Program supports Newman Center and Diocesan-wide projects that facilitate one or more of its goals of worship, fellowship, and service that are consistent with the NFI Mission Statement.

Eligibility

1. Newman Center sponsored groups, especially students.
2. Roman Catholic clubs/groups in Kentucky that are part of (or have the potential to be part of) the Newman Apostolate.
3. Organizations affiliated with the Diocese of Lexington who are seeking funding for activities that are consistent with the mission and goals of the Newman Foundation Inc.
4. It is a condition of each grant that a report of the project results be filed. Consideration for any future grant is contingent on proper reporting of any previously funded grants.
5. It is the intent of Newman Foundation and the Grants Committee to fund as many different Grant applicants as possible each year. Therefore, preference will be given to applicants that have not previously received a grant from NFI, in the current fiscal year.

Typically, grants will be awarded up to $1,000. However, if additional funds are needed for larger projects, the Grants committee will consider them.

Application and Review Procedures

Initial Contact: Prospective grantees must contact Ronda Stewart-Wilcox, Operations Manager, Newman Foundation Inc., at 859-255-0880, by mail at 320 Rose Lane, Lexington, KY 40508, or by email newmanfnd@kih.net to request an application form.

Deadlines: The Grants Committee meets three times per year to review applications. Applications are due on the first Thursday of October, February, and April each year. Grants submitted after these deadlines will not be considered until the next grant application deadline. However, emergency requests may be submitted for consideration on a case-by-case basis. [Notification of award will be provided within 30 days of the deadline].
The grant application deadlines for 2007 are:
October 4, 2007
February 7, 2008
April 3, 2008

Limitations: No Grants will be retroactively funded. No “after the fact” funding will be considered. The Grants Committee gives consideration only to organizations that are within the eligibility guidelines. The foundation does not typically fund proposals for general operating expenses, salaries, academic scholarships, medical supplies and refreshments/meals. A detailed budget should be prepared and submitted with the grant proposal. Funds granted must be used for the purpose stated in the application.

Terms of the Grant Award: If an award is granted, the recipient is required to submit a brief report documenting the project results, no later than three months following receipt of grants funds. If the project is ongoing, a progress report is required at the end for the three-month period. In all cases a report is required upon completion of the project. Any grant monies not expended for the specific purpose designated on the grant proposal, or in excess of what is needed must be returned to the Newman Foundation, Inc. office along with an explanation and a final report. Failure to comply with these requirements will disqualify an organization from any future consideration of funding.

Please call the Newman Foundation office should you have any question.
