Designating the funds from your Newman Foundation Campaign donation

$Please use the total amount of my donation to go toward areas of need as designated by Newman Foundation, Inc.

Please designate amounts indicated toward specific areas of the Newman Foundation Campaign:

$Newman Foundation Endowed Professorship in Catholic Studies (aka “Endowed Research Fund”)
$ To establish a professorship in Catholic Studies. The addition of a second position in Catholic Studies would provide the critical mass necessary for UK to establish a program of Catholic Studies and work toward establishing a Department of Religious Studies.
$ To fund symposia, lectures, workshops, scholarly publications, visiting faculty, student scholarships for study in other countries and outreach activities.
$Advance Funding for Cottrill-Rolfes Endowed Chair
Newman Foundation, Inc. requested that the University of Kentucky expedite a search for a Chair in Catholic Studies shortly after the endowed Chair was established. The university agreed to conduct the search before the endowment was fully funded and earning interest. The early search amount covers expenses associated with the Chair in Catholic Studies for the first three years. (Amount = $150,000).
$Enhanced Catholic Initiatives
Distinguished Speaker Series: The goal is to take the already existing speaker series which offers two speakers per year and increase it to four per year. The Newman Foundation seeks to bring in outstanding theologians and/or philosophers whose work encompasses a full range of Catholic thought. $

Grants/Scholarships: The Foundation’s existing grants program supports Newman Center, Diocesan-wide and statewide projects. The goal is to expand the financial resources to meet grant requests supporting Catholic initiatives across the state. Newman Foundation has funded a variety of grant requests including the tapestry hanging in St. Peter Claver Church, CCD supplies for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and scholarships for students at Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky University to attend the National Catholic Student Coalition conference. The Foundation will also fund scholarships for people in the Diocese of Lexington who serve in ministry roles (i.e. deacons, clergy and laity) to participate in classes offered by the Chair in Catholic Studies at UK. $

Student Leadership Programs: Prior to the launching of a campaign, feedback was received from a variety of groups (i.e. parishes, alumni, students) regarding the components of the campaign. Several groups requested the implementation of Student Leadership programming that prepared college students to take on roles within their parishes after graduation. This involves financial training to prepare students to serve on Finance Committees, project management training to implement fundraisers, catechetical training to teach in CCD programs, etc. $
$Campus Ministry Programs
There are over 6,000 Catholic students at the University of Kentucky. There is a need to expand resources to be able to reach out to these students. The Newman Foundation will work closely with Holy Spirit Parish to insure that projects and programs meet the vision and mission of the local church. The areas to be addressed in regards to campus ministry include:
  • Merit-based scholarships to qualified candidates
  • Financial assistance to students who wish to attend a Catechetical Institute offered through Holy Spirit Parish
  • Paid internships in liturgy/music/religious education/student outreach
  • Retreats and Service/Learning trips (including Spring Break trips)
  • Campus ministry programs including welcome activities, service projects and student meals after Mass.
$Foundation Sustaining Fund
This fund will provide the necessary financial support for day-to-day expenses for the Foundation, including staff salaries, development work, supplies, postage, newsletters, office equipment, utilities and other expenses.
